Brand Q&A | Behind the scenes of a swimwear photoshoot
Swimwear photoshoot day is one of our favourite days of the year and for good reason. Who doesn't love dressing up, hanging out with the girls and taking cute pics? Read along as we share more of what it takes to bring a photoshoot to life, some of the ups, downs and all the in betweens on photoshoot day.
Can you describe a typical Pinksalt Swimwear photoshoot?
Our photoshoots are a blend of meticulous planning and creativity. We start with mood boards and concept discussions, followed by location scouting, casting models, and finalising outfits. On the day of the shoot, our team includes photographers, models, stylists, and makeup artists working together to bring the vision to life. We play around with different props to bring our creative vision to life.
Who are the key team members involved (e.g., photographers, models, stylists)?
The key team members are photographers, models, stylists, makeup artists, and sometimes videographers for behind-the-scenes footage. Our founder will always be on set to help with creative direction, outfits and capturing behind the scenes content.
How do you prepare for a photoshoot? Any special considerations or preparations?
We prepare by ensuring all outfits are ready, creating a detailed shot list, create a detailed photoshoot guide for models and photographer and discussing the vision with the team. Special considerations include selecting locations that align with our brand aesthetic and ensuring models feel comfortable and confident. Because we are a swimwear brand it can be difficult shoot during winter, which is why studios such as Parker & Stone are an excellent alternative.
Are there any unique or interesting aspects of your photoshoots that you would like to highlight?
Our photoshoots often focus on inclusivity and body positivity. We feature models of various shapes and sizes to reflect our brand’s commitment to diversity. Some of the models we have worked with recently you can find on Instagram @erinandoakley and @_vmvv.
Do you have any anecdotes or stories from past photoshoots that you can share?
During our first overseas photoshoot, we almost didn't have the swimwear for the photoshoot produced in time due to a miscommunication and almost had to cancel the shoot. Thankfully our manufacturers worked overtime and got the swimsuits delivered to us about 5 minutes before the team arrived.
How do you ensure the photos reflect your brand’s mission and identity?
We ensure the photos reflect our mission by emphasizing body positivity, diversity, and showcasing our swimwear in real-life scenarios where women can feel confident and beautiful.
